Physiotherapy

Your physiotherapist will provide a comprehensive assessment based on your functional goals, and create and discuss a treatment plan and options for recovery that are right for you. Your treatment will include education on your injury, mechanics, treatment plan options, self management strategies, injury prevention, and exercise prescription with measurable goals. Our therapists also provide manual therapy, and are certified in acupuncture and dry needling. Some of our therapists are also certified in the use of blood flow restriction training, ordering diagnostic imaging if needed, can perform functional on the wall climbing assessments and climbing performance assessments, and running assessment/gait analysis. We also offer vestibular assessments.

Kayla Eagle

Physiotherapist, MScPT, BKin, CAFCI

Kayla is a physiotherapist, climber, mother, and co-owner of Bolder Health and Performance. She earned her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta, following a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Calgary. With extensive experience in private practice, Kayla focuses on treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.

Kayla is dedicated to ongoing education, holding certifications in acupuncture, biomedical dry needling, Active Release Technique, and advanced manual therapy through the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She is also qualified to order diagnostic imaging and has received additional training in shoulder, elbow, and pelvic injury assessment, climbing movement analysis and climbing injuries, running gait assessment, and blood flow restriction therapy.

Her approach to rehabilitation emphasizes analyzing movement patterns and postures, creating functional, progressive exercise programs, and using manual therapy to restore optimal mobility and function. Patient education, goal-setting, and self-management are central to her practice.

Kayla has a special interest in climbing-related injuries and injury prevention, and has led workshops on injury prevention for climbers. She is also highly focused on non-operative shoulder management.

Outside of work, Kayla enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and pursues activities like running, bouldering, snowboarding, and water sports.

Tanielle Garcia

Physiotherapist, MPT, BKin (Hons)

Tanielle earned her Master of Physical Therapy from the University of Saskatchewan in 2010. She completed her undergraduate Honors degree in Kinesiology from the University of Regina in 2008, where she also played on the women’s hockey team, receiving the Academic All Canadian scholarship.

Since moving to Calgary in 2010, Tanielle has worked in multi-disciplinary clinics and as a research clinician in sport-related concussion studies at the University of Calgary since 2012. She holds advanced post-graduate certification in vestibular and concussion rehabilitation and is certified as an Advanced Vestibular Physical Therapist by the University of Pittsburgh. Tanielle holds a Level III certification in manual therapy from the Canadian Physiotherapy Association, as well as training in Active Release techniques, running injuries, and biomedical dry needling. She is dedicated to treating all types of injuries, with specialized expertise in neck pain and headaches. Tanielle focuses on identifying root causes and improving movement patterns to help her patients regain mobility and function. Tanielle values collaboration with other healthcare professionals to provide a holistic approach to patient care, with a strong emphasis on education and prevention.

Early in her career, Tanielle volunteered in Botswana, Africa, where she implemented fall prevention and posture awareness programs in underserved communities. This experience highlights her commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and improving her patients’ quality of life. During this trip, she also had the opportunity to climb and successfully summit Mount Kilimanjaro with her now-husband.

Outside of work, Tanielle enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends, hiking, biking, travelling, and coaching her kids in sports.

Helmut Becker

Physiotherapist, MScPT, CMT, FDN/IMS, BPE

Helmut is an avid rock climber and dedicated clinician. He has been a practicing physiotherapist in Calgary since 2007, after earning his Master of Science in Physiotherapy from the University of Alberta. Since then, he has gained extensive experience treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.

Helmut is a Certified Manual Therapist, specializing in IMS/Dry Needling, and is also authorized to provide Diagnostic Imaging referrals. Additionally, he contributed over seven years to the Banff Sports Medicine Knee Clinic Research Group, focusing on post-operative ACL and MPFL surgery rehabilitation and research.

Originally from Brazil, Helmut moved to Canada in the early 2000s, drawn by the majestic Rocky Mountains, which he now calls home. His climbing journey began in the early 1990s, and he quickly ascended to the ranks of Brazil’s climbing elite, contributing to the sport’s development for over a decade. His travels to various climbing destinations have broadened his perspective on the sport and its intersection with his clinical practice.

Helmut’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Physical Education from University Gama Filho (1998) and a Specialization in Sports Performance Training from UNOPAR (2000). This combination of expertise enabled him to pioneer performance methodologies for climbing in Brazil during the late 1990s.

Currently, Helmut is focused on exploring the intersection of sports performance and rehabilitation, with an emphasis on promoting healthy longevity for athletes and the general community. His enthusiasm extends to collaborating on and designing new research projects.

Outside of work, Helmut enjoys climbing both indoors and outdoors, hiking, cross-country skiing, and pursuing his long-standing passion for photography in the mountains.
